Enclosure 2 in Canton despatch to Peking No.117 of 13th August 1935.

No.C.I.D. 1541/28.

POLICE HEADQUARTERS,

HONG KONG.

29th June, 1935.

The Inspector General of Police, Hong Kong, presents his compliments to H. B. M. Consul, Canton, and with reference to his communication of the 18th June, 1935, relating to a British Indian called Benares Khan, who is applying for permission to come to Hong Kong to obtain employment, has the honour to request that particulars as to this man's father's name, village etc., be supplied.

There is a record in this Department of a certain Benares Khan son of Sardar Khan, Village Goudal, District Cambellpore, who was formerly employed in the Quards' Office in Hong Kong and later as a Private Watchman, but there is no record of this man ever having been

employed as a night watchman by the R.A.S.C.

With regard to promise of employment by Firdos

Khan mentioned in paragraph 3 of H. B. M. Consul's communication under reference, it is not considered that this guarantee is sufficiently reliable.

In the meanwhile, it is requested that no facilities to come to Hong Kong be given to Benares Khan until the matter has been further investigated.
